Gudaf Tsegay is an Ethiopian middle-distance runner competing primarily in the 1,500 meters but also 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
Gudaf Tsegay was born on January 23, 1997. She comes from the Tigray region of Ethiopia, and moved to the nation’s capital, Addis Ababa, to train.
Gudaf Tsegay represented her country at the 2014 and 2016 World Indoor Championships winning the bronze on the second occasion. She also won the bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships in the 1500 meters event and at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 5,000 meters event.
In February 2021, Gudaf Tsegay broke the women’s 1,500 meters indoor world record at a meeting in Lievin, France. The former world record with 3:55.17 set by Genzebe Dibaba in 2014 was lowered by Tsegay to 3:53.09.
